Two coins for the Ferryman

from Two coins for the Ferryman [Single] by Idillicah

/

about

This is a very early demo, which we recorded with Dayana Urunaga and Evan Brennan. It gave the basis on which to work on for the next Idillicah releases.

The inspiration for the lyrics came from the mythos of the Ferryman, who carried the Dead into the Underworld by allowing them to cross the river into Hades' domain.

The ferryman requires a fee to be paid: two coins have to be placed over the Departed's eyes as payment to the Ferryman.

lyrics

Don't be afraid
When the time comes
I'll be there
To hold your hand

No need to fret
When you must cross over
I'll be there
To show you the way

Rest in my arms
Walk into the light
And don't look back

When you're laid to rest
When you forever close your eyes
I'll pay my respects

And when I say
My lasts goodbyes
Two coins I will put over your eyes

So when you meet
The Ferryman
You will go
Into the afterlife.
